Details that make a difference
The gaps tell part of the story
An uneven gap at the top, a rub on the latch side, and a door dragging at the floor can have different causes. Loose hinges, a sagging slab, paint buildup, or movement in the frame can all affect operation. I look at the fit before deciding whether adjustment, fastening, or trimming is the appropriate correction.
A latch problem may start at the hinges
When a door has dropped slightly, the latch can miss the strike even though the lock still works. Moving the strike without checking the door’s position can leave the underlying problem. Describe whether you have to lift, pull, or push the door to close it; that detail helps me understand what to review.
Some repairs need access beyond the visible door
Pocket doors and bypass doors depend on rollers, guides, and tracks. A repair may be straightforward when the hardware is accessible, or more involved when access requires opening trim or a wall. For exterior doors, deteriorated frames or water damage may exceed a simple adjustment. Those conditions are reviewed before the scope is confirmed.
Questions about door repair
Will you need to trim the door?
Possibly, but adjustment and hardware conditions should be checked first. Removing material is not the first answer to every sticking door.
Can you fix a pocket door off its track?
Send photos and describe the problem. Fit depends on the track, hardware condition, and access available.
Can several doors be repaired together?
Yes. Identify each door and its symptoms so I can review a bundled scope for the visit.
